We at Remedy Pain Solutions have had many questions recently about vitamin infusions and if they are beneficial for pain. This treatment strategy has become popular as Americans are increasingly concerned with their nutrition, and alternative therapies become more widespread. While there are many types of vitamin therapies out there, one specific vitamin infusion which has been in the headlines lately is the Myers cocktail infusion.

A Myers cocktail is named after Dr. John Myers, who first used the mixture in the 1960s. This “cocktail” is a concoction of essential vitamins and minerals which are thought to help the body recover from various disease states. Magnesium and calcium are important for the normal functioning of nerves and muscles, vitamin B complex aides in converting food into energy, and vitamin C protects against cell damage. By administering these vitamins intravenously (IV), the digestive system tract is bypassed which allows for a higher level of nutrients to be delivered to the cells. This is why patients often notice more significant results from infusion therapy than they do from vitamin supplements taken by mouth.

While these infusions can be indicated for many diseases, one particular disorder often treated with a Myers cocktail is Fibromyalgia syndrome. Fibromyalgia syndrome is characterized by widespread muscle pain and tenderness accompanied by chronic fatigue, sleep disturbance, and depressed mood. This chronic condition is far more prevalent in women than men, and can be frustratingly difficult to treat with conventional methods. Remedy Pain Solutions is proud to offer a treatment that is both safe and effective for patients who may have previously been left without practical treatment options.

Ideally, a Myers cocktail infusion is given after blood electrolyte levels have been checked by your primary physician, such as during a yearly physical examination. The infusions are usually given on a weekly basis for a six to eight-week period. If successful, the patient can then transition to a maintenance program consisting of infusions given on a monthly basis, as needed for ongoing symptoms. Each infusion takes between 30 to 60 minutes to administer and can be provided in the comfort of our in-office procedure suite, located within our Marina Del Rey clinic. If you or someone you know is suffering with persistent chronic pain conditions such as asthma, migraines, chronic pain, loss of appetite, fatigue, depression, muscle spasms, and immune suppression, come in and speak with us at Remedy Pain Solutions and see if vitamin infusion therapy is the answer.
